Tirol Lodge

Ellmau, Austria

A hotel made entirely of wood is the Tirol Lodge, an entire chalet village with 171 rooms in Ellmau, Austria.

A hotel made entirely of wood ...

... that was what the client wanted for the Tirol Lodge hotel project. And rather than a boxy hotel block, the result is an entire chalet village with 171 rooms in Ellmau, Austria. A special retreat amidst the mountain landscape of the Wilder Kaiser with direct access to the ski slopes, year-round heated outdoor pool and a sauna overlooking the Alpine panorama. However, the material was something of a challenge for the architect Bruno Moser: wood is constantly moving. This aspect can become something of a problem, especially in the bathrooms. Silicone joints could tear or leak, and moisture could damage the wood.

The architectural office therefore opted for the floor-level shower areas BetteFloor Side in combination with the BetteUpstand.

For the Tirol Lodge, Austria, the architectural office opted for the floor-level shower surfaces BetteFloor Side in combination with the BetteZarge.
BetteFloor Side shower area
In the bathrooms of the Tirol Lodge, Austria, the floor-level BetteFloor Side shower surface was installed in combination with the BetteZarge.

What makes this solution so safe? The frame made of glazed titanium steel extends the edge of the shower surfaces to under the wall cladding, and eliminates the need for silicone. The result: the wood remains effectively protected from moisture. Simply a really smart solution!
